In good sunlight, the pump operates using solar power, while the battery pack collects and stores a charge. If it is a cloudy day or dark, the battery will activate and power the unit for as many as 4 hours when fully charged. If the batteries are depleted, the system will automatically attempt to draw power from the solar panel and will resume running once the sun comes out.
